Frequently Asked Questions

  • Please complete the contact form and/or questionnaire to provide essential information about your child’s needs. This will help Donna understand your child’s challenges and begin identifying potential solutions. Donna will personally follow up with you via phone or email.

Upon submission, you’ll also receive valuable information, including a rate sheet. You can choose to begin with a comprehensive evaluation, start direct treatment, or receive parent coaching.

  • If you're unsure whether Occupational Therapy (OT) will benefit your child, Donna can start with a screening to assess if OT is the right fit. Through OT and Donna’s signature approach, children can improve body awareness, attention for learning, play skills, and motor functioning—key areas that support social skills and age-appropriate development. OT can also enhance a child’s ‘joint attention,’ which is the ability to focus on another person and is essential for language development.

If OT services aren't the right choice, Donna will guide you toward the most suitable professional for your child's needs.

  • Please note that Donna does not accept insurance directly. However, you may be able to explore out-of-network benefits with your insurance provider. If there are no developmental OT pediatric specialists available in your area through your plan, you can file an appeal with your insurance company to request coverage for our services.

  • Parent coaching can be incredibly valuable, and Donna has been successfully teaching this approach to providers for many years. When parents feel overwhelmed, confused, or are seeking answers, Donna’s mission is to help shift that perspective. By deeply understanding a child, Donna empowers parents with insights into their child’s world, reducing both parent and child frustration. Parents are equipped with meaningful ways to support their child and practical strategies to implement at home.

  • Accurate Sensory Processing is the ability to make sense of incoming stimuli in order to respond with success. When a child overreacts easily or ignores details in the environment they are prevented from socializing or learning with ease. This often results in behaviors that are not understood or seem out of proportion to the situation. A child may also have difficulties in fine motor and gross motor functioning as reliable interpretation of sensory experiences are necessary for motor performance.

  • Children learn best through play, and therapy is designed to feel like just that. Direct therapy provides personalized, incremental challenges that require and motivate a child to perform with a little more skill each time. When a child begins to master their environment their successes spill over into social/emotional growth, improvements in self-esteem, and relationships with peers. Every child wants to feel competent, and each therapy session is carefully planned to meet the individual needs, goals, and motivations of that child.

  • Donna would be a great asset to your team. She is available to consult with professionals, therapists, teachers, and family members to share her findings and help create a more comprehensive approach to enhance a child’s progress and self-esteem. Her unique perspective and experience often provide valuable insights that benefit everyone involved.

  • Donna is available for in-person or remote for workshops, services or consultations. She believes it is important to meet a family or child where they believe it would be most beneficial. She visits homes, schools, playgrounds or any community location that would be valuable to a child’s progress.

  • Depending upon a child’s age and understanding, it is usually best to inform them that you found a person that “plays” with children just like them. This person really understands “what is tricky” for them and can help make it a lot easier.

  • Depending upon a parent’s goals and the child’s difficulties the length of therapy varies. An initial consultation can provide parents with a greater understanding of their child’s deficits. A more comprehensive screening or evaluation can provide even more answers. Treatment is is recommended for a minimum of 3 months to ensure the newly acquired skills are solidified into a child’s repertoire.

  • Research shows that the greatest benefits from therapy are typically achieved at a younger age. Additionally, as children get older the challenges they encounter require even more skill. Therefore, if there are concerns, it is recommended to begin intervention as early as possible.

  • Donna’s decades of experience and natural rapport with children set her apart. Children quickly trust her, knowing she has their best interests at heart, which helps them try new things they might have previously avoided. As they gain confidence and develop new skills, children transition from feeling overwhelmed and misunderstood to actively engaging with peers and embracing life’s experiences. Donna doesn’t believe in simply skill training but instead relies on evidence-based practice which addresses the child’s underlying foundational challenges.

This approach leads to significant progress and translates across a child’s broader life experiences.

  • Donna’s intervention leverages the plasticity of the nervous system (the ability for it to grow / learn) by engaging in individualized passive then active heavy work activities. Her specific method effectively enhances a child’s attention, self regulation and overall engagement in social and academic settings. Children interpret this approach as fun and often can’t wait for the next session as they begin to realize they can succeed. The significant changes observed by parents and teachers has been dramatic.

  • Yes! Children on the spectrum often perceive their environment differently, which can impact their ability to attend, communicate, form peer relationships, and learn. This altered sensory perception can be highly distracting and confusing which leads to a focus on irrelevant stimuli instead of the essential cues needed to complete tasks. With Donna’s targeted approach that focuses on both the child and parent, significant progress can be made in addressing these challenges.

  • Donna provides parents with practical and therapeutic strategies to support their child at home. Once she gets to know your child, weekly recommendations will focus on managing behaviors, improving motor skills, and addressing sensory experiences—key elements in fostering independence and making daily life at home easier. All of Donna’s screenings and evaluations include tailored recommendations to guide this process.

  • Donna works closely with a child and family to determine the source of the child’s difficulties. Avoidance or refusals to eat can be triggered by a multitude of factors. Once the “why” a child is struggling is understood, Donna works on developing new positive experiences to make the process of eating easier and more enjoyable. Your child’s favorite food list and providing a complete list of what your child eats/avoids is reviewed.
